Guardalavaca beach was the first Cuban beach resort to be developed with luxury Cuban hotels in the late 1970s. The name "Guardalavaca"  was given by Cuban Buccaneers and Caribbean pirates that in Spanish means literally “guard the cow.” which was  a warning call to the Cubans to  hide their cattle, women and treasures from incoming Pirates. The Playa Pesquero beach has become the home of Cuban and foreign Luxury all-inclusive mega resorts and a favorite honeymoon destination for romantic holidays on the beaches with the most private and features and plenty of palm trees for shade from the super hot sun.

Guardalavaca's best beach is Playa Esmeralda, named for its deep clear green waters is surrounded by a series of blue lagoons and secret bays with some of the best snorkeling in all of Cuba. Bahia de Naranjo Nature Reserve is an island playground with a living fish aquarium where you can swim with dolphins. All the beaches of Guardalavaca offer plenty of fun water sports like water skiing,  scuba diving, snorkeling  but given the area’s warm clear waters and over thirty beginner scuba diving sites with sunken ships you may want to try going underwater.

This fifty kilometer long secret island used to be a exotic wild game reserve for Fidel Castro and his hunting comrades and is famous in Cuba for its spectacular coastline as well as its precious colorful flora and exotic fauna, including antelopes and zebras.
